When you have no need to complicate matters.
New age paradigm adopts a microservice, API first approach.

It’s an enterprise buzzword for, “lets make microservices as our first option, if it doesn’t make sense, do what does”.

If you have done all the proper planning and architecting, you’ll discovered that if your service is mostly stateful, has lots of internal plumbing, just monolith it.

Often it’s not one or the other, in a system, you could have monolith components and microservices side by side.

A system should be design by it’s functional requirements, not by idealogy.
