first you need to update your package.json file

main: "folder path to your root component"

Second you need to import the following into your root component file 

import { registerRootComponent } from 'expo';

Lastly, you need to wrap the component export within this imported method. 
So you should end up with something like this. 

import React from 'react';
import { registerRootComponent } from 'expo';

const App = () : React.ReactElement => {
    return (
        <>
      		...
      	</>
    );
};

export default registerRootComponent(App);
