Vault Accounts form an essential part of Vault, representing both your customers’ and your financial institution's internal accounts:

Customer Accounts: Accounts which are associated with one or more of your customers and are governed by Smart Contract logic. The storage of customer data against these Accounts is optional and we recommend that you instead create customer records external to Vault, referencing these records via a unique ID in Vault.

Internal Accounts: Accounts which are owned and operated by you. These are used to allocate and track funds owned by the financial institution. Internal Accounts can be used to track assets held outside of Vault (for example, a nostro account), to capture internal liabilities, or to track profit and loss operations, such as billing fees or interest accruals.
